Forecasters Predict Historic Hurricane Season with High Impact on Texas
According to AccuWeather and NOAA, the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is expected to be one of the most active in history. Forecasts from Colorado State University predict a 54% chance of a hurricane hitting the Texas coast, with a 25% chance of a major hurricane.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued hurricane guides for Houston and Galveston, Texas, urging residents to prepare for potential impacts. NWS forecasts indicate a range of 17 to 25 named storms, 8 to 13 hurricanes, and 4 to 7 major hurricanes during the season.
The first hurricane of the season, Tropical Storm Beryl, formed over the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to strengthen as it approaches the south Texas coast late this weekend. Residents in affected areas are advised to monitor weather updates and follow safety guidelines.
